One Simple Question

For quick reference I will link to this blog post. WARNING: You will be directed to a blog with a color scheme similar to that of irradiated goat urine.

Running commentary below.

But while we stood in line, we watched as the Timber's Team ambassadors scaled the lines and decided to kick people out of the line if they were obviously not a Timber fan, and showing support for another team. We saw a poor couple who drove over 3 hours from Seattle and then sat in line for at least a couple of hours in the cold rain to get told they would not sell them tickets.

They pulled out known scalpers and people wearing Sounders gear. Pulling out known scalpers is a no brainer and should be applauded. Secondly, Seattle Sounders supporters have a set of tickets allocated to them by the Portland front office, the same as Seattle allocates tickets for Timbers supporters. There are requirements of all those supporters that travel down. Additionally, how stupid do you have to be to show up in your biggest rival's ticket line decked out in Rave Green?

Sure, good strategy on Portland's part to only sell tickets at the box office, thereby limiting the opportunities for away supporters to obtain tickets. But to kick people out of line, supporters who have traveled hours to obtain tickets for these matches, because they are fans of another club. This is wrong in so many ways.

As I just explained, supporters are required to purchase tickets through their supporters groups, where they have to abide by a certain set of rules put in place by both respective front offices and the supporters groups of both teams. Why don't you cry about this some more on the internet?

The actions of the Portland Timbers organization is so blatantly despicable that there is really no need to embellish.

Idiots. Away team allocation exists for a reason. I don’t care that you’re willing to drive down to Portland, these tickets are for Portlanders, not away fans.

Upset Flounders are upset. Boo effin hoo. They were the ones who cried and complained that percentage based allocations were unfair. Their FO encouraged them to come down and buy them. Entitled asshats upset by losing their entitlement. Just because they invented soccer way back in 2009, doesnt mean we have to leave more spaces open for them to buy at the expense of home team fans. Other major sports in America do the same thing. In England you arent even allowed out side of the supporters section and will be removed, maybe even arrested. NFL teams have done it and still do it, colleges do it all the time, this isnt new or even unheard of. They are all just upset because we showed them up. Also supporter groups are not a protected class by any legal definition so all those claiming legal action should be brought for discrimination need to STFU! Just because you had a bigger banner for your tifo doesnt mean anything.

Sure, its not ‘nice’ to kick them out of line, but we dont have an 80,000 seat NFL stadium to put everyone in like some people. Home fans get priority, especially at the box office.

A private business establishment has the right to refuse sale to anyone they want. Seattle can do the same, but they decided to sell their souls to ticketmaster. I just checked, and I can still buy a ticket to the Timbers match in Seattle, if they wanted they could easily do the same.

Sorry for over-commenting, but the worst part is that the post is technically endorsed by the sounders organization, being that’s it’s on their official website

    PTFC attendance v SJE @ JWF – 16,118
    PTFC attendance v Chivas @ JWF – 15,195
    SSFC attendance v Jaguares @ Century Link – 11,140
Max capacity JWF = 20,323; Max capacity CLink = 67,000

Maybe the Flounders should focus a little more on getting into their own home games instead of trying to sneak into ours.

SSFC average attendance in 2011: 38,496
PTFC average attendance in 2011: 18,827
The Sounders have plenty of people at their home games.

Shorter whine: “I’m smart enough to try to get around the ticket allocation by driving for 3 hours to stand in line, but dumb enough to wear my Flounders gear when I do it! Waaah!”
It takes some serious cojones and/or cluelessness to risk wasting your day by showing rival colors in the ticket line. If you can’t manage to hold it together enough to make a stealth ticket purchase you sure as hell should NOT be seated outside the away supporters’ section for a Cascadia Cup match. Jeebus.

Im whole heartedly glad this went down. I have had Seattle supporters sitting in my section, down to the row (118, D) since they promoted and were playing us in Open Cup. Every time they have been assholes, picking fights, etc. I am fine that they want to pretend to be passionate but they need to do it in their section. You dont sit with your supporter group, you dont wear your HORRIBLE kit replicas, and you dont talk smack if your team scores…in Europe (and I dont just mean England) its a good way to get beat up or stabbed.
