    I wouldn’t be surprised if newbies got confused by the free umbrella’s… and took flags as well assuming they were free. Even so, usually we all know to say something if we see it.

    Most of the folks stealing know EXACTLY what they are doing. How do I know this? Because they are cutting the flags off the poles. I’m sure a flag or two will find its way out while on the pole during the season, but our best indication are the empty poles we find in the stands post-match.

    It was my first game and I thought they were free (or left behind by someone) on the way out. I took the pole and everything, and was waving it in the air the whole way out and no one said anything. Didn’t notice any stamp on it. I’ll bring it back next game.

    Good to know. I do still think it was an easy mistake to make after they just gave out a ton of free umbrellas as well, but if the Timbers Army approach is to call newbies idiots and threaten to beat them up then that’s cool too I guess.

    I remember back to my very first game. I did indeed think the flags were free, and wanted to take one home. A man came up to me as I was walking down the row and said very politely that the flags were as much a part of the stadium as the goals or the field. Ever since I have had no confusion, and have pointed this fact out to others.

    This is a good and valid point. TIFO should consider adding a note to all flags that makes it clear these are not free or gifts for fans, and are to remain in the stadium after every match.

    The amount of flags is annoying. As a season ticket holder since 2007, the amount of flags has grown hand in hand with the amount of people in the TA. People get drunk and wave the flag constently. It’s just annoying. I love the vibe, the singing, the cheering, but I want to WATCH the game. Not some drunk 20 hipster with a flag 2 rows in front of me.

    As the club will tell you, if you want to watch the game without your view being obstructed from time to time there are plenty of areas in the stadium where you can do that.

    When I started coming in 2009 I couldn’t imagine the TA section being completely filled. Having so many flags waving in the North End is a beautiful sight to me.
