06/11/2014 2:35 PM | 107ist Admin (Administrator)

We all know the World Cup is a big deal. A REALLY big deal. But maybe you’ve delayed getting up to speed (much like how we’ve delayed getting this guide posted early enough to be of much value). Fear not, we’ve got you covered.

Below you’re going to find some handy resources to help you get up to speed on the planet’s biggest sporting event.

So, regardless of who you root for, we hope you enjoy the hell out of the next month

Need to know when matches are happening

Check out this Interactive Calendar of Every Match

Remember, not everyone watches soccer year round.

So be nice to noobs

Do you still need to do a crash course on who’s playing, and what their prospects for success are?

Let Men in Blazers run it all down for your with their Guide to the 2014 World Cup

Looking for places to watch the first week of matches?

Here are some highlights from some of our partners. Do you know of other events or bars that are supporting the World Cup and should be highlighted? Let us know and we can include it in our next update.

World Cup Beer Garden

Looking for fun in the Portland sun?  Check out the World Cup Beer Garden, a partner of the 107ist during the duration of the 2014 World Cup!  Located adjacent to the former Gypsy Lounge on NW 21st and Irving, the World Cup Beer Garden starts on June 12th and will offer beer from Coalition, Occidental, Burnside, Widmer, and others, as well as cocktails from Merit Badge Company, food from Fried Egg I'm in Love and Bus Stop Cafe, coffee from Sterling Coffee Roasters, and viewings on at least 10 large TVs.  Some proceeds from a specialty tap will benefit the Timbers Army's Jefferson High School soccer field project.  You can catch all 64 matches there!

Rose City Futsal

Another spot with a twist to view the World Cup, and save some green with your 107ist card!  Clive's Public House, located within the Rose City Futsal grounds, offers $1.00 off pints when you show your 107ist card, and will be showing all the matches on their 7 large flat screens and also (for many) on the 20' projection screen.
