On September 20, 2026, 107IST hosted local author and Pacific University professor Jules Boykoff at the Axe and Rose for a discussion of his books published in 2026: Red Card: The 2026 World Cup, Sportswashing, and the FIFA Greed Machine and Kicking. Video of the event is available here.

We had a wide-ranging discussion that Jules anchored by going through some of the recent efforts by 107IST and supporters such as the fight to display the Iron Front anti-fascist flag and protests against Timbers and Thorns ownership that led to concrete changes.

Jules used these examples to illustrate how our supporters group used our power to fight against the corruption in the game that we all love, and as inspiration for the present fight against using the sport to glorify politicians and enrich the FIFA organization. The fight might be long, but in the words of Noenoe Silva: “As power persists so does resistance finding its way like water slowly carving through crevices into and through rock.”

He mentioned two organizations he is involved with which are working toward changing the game: FairSquare, which advocates systemic change and stopping human rights abuses, and Reboot FIFA, which is working to change FIFA so that it truly represents its member associations and the football community.
