Riveters Player of the Year poll now open

08/13/2015 3:03 PM | 107ist Admin (Administrator)

Hey, all. It’s that time again. As we approach our final regular season home match of the year, we’re thinking back over the contributions made by each of our players. The Riveters Player of the Year will be honored August 30 at Providence Park.

The survey is set to only accept one response from each computer so please discuss with family/roommates/opinionated pets before you make your choice. The poll will close Sunday, August 23rd at 6 p.m. (assuming I clicked all the right buttons and checked all the right boxes).

Betos scoring header goal off of corner kick in overtime stoppage minutes, for the game winning goal.

It was the game-tying goal, not game-winning. Still awesome.

Over the course of the year, Sinead Farrelly has been the Thorns’ most consistently effective player. Most Improved Player for the league? Damn right.

Allie Long is the heart and soul of the team this year. I have enjoyed her play out on the pitch. She produced when the supper stars went off to go play for their country. She produced beautiful play when the stars all came home.. My vote is for Allie this year.

Certainly there have been several players who have had terrific individual games; Allie Long in the first Boston match, Betos’ incredible header to nick the draw against FCKC here. Sinc and Ayo away to Rochester, Polkinghorne and Williamson keeping Press in check in the home win over Chicago.

But for consistency of effort, technical skill, and tactical intelligence Sinead Farrelly has been far and away the standout player of what has been a very difficult season. She has seldom put in a poor shift and has almost always made the midfield stronger and more effective. All the more incredible when you think that this time last year many of us were cursing Coach Riley for continuing to play her at all and her for her unhandiness with the ball at her feet and seeming lack of soccer smarts.

Farrelly has repayed her coach’s trust in her and has been the most improved as well as the most effective player for the Thorns this season. Thank you, Sinead!
