Top 5 of All-Time?

By now I'm sure most of you have seen the MLS supporters Top 5 MLS all-time tifo. I have to admit I'm scratching my head a lot about including the Charlie Davies display in the top 5.

In no way am I trashing the nice gesture the team from up North made for injured USMNT striker Charlie Davies. It was a great thing to do. How in the hell can a display of 30K printed out pieces of paper paid for by Drew Carey be counted as one of the best tifo displays in MLS history? Drew Carey didn't even think it up as it had already been done 10 days before at the USMNT World Cup Qualifying match in Washington, DC, October 14, 2009.

A very nice gesture to be sure. One of the best in the history of the league...hardly. Anyone have any thoughts?

I still smile every time I see that Timber Jim/Space Needle video. I was right behind where the needle was, and that white smoke was wayyyyyy not good for my lungs (srsly some toxic stuff, and normally I love the smell of smoke bombs). One of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen (and the TA t.i.f.o. crew has some some pretty amazing things the past few years).

As for the rest of the list:

seattle Davies tribute: Garrett you hit it on the head, this is meh and not even original
Chicago Mario Bros: anything that hates on the flounders is cool with me. Great idea, execution so-so.
DC’s Olsen tribute: classy, like pretty much everything la Barra Brava does.
TFC Dichio tribute: that’s a very large banner, but *yawn*.

I think ECS has done much better displays than the Davies tribute, so the inclusion of that one makes the rest of the list suspect.

I enjoyed the Chicago tifo with the umbrellas more than the Super Mario one, mainly because it wasn’t executed very smooth.

Barra Brava has fallen off in tifo terms, ever since their tifo genius left and started District Ultras their stuff has been very shoddy (Camm spraypaint the night before bad).

TFC, the best part of this display wasn’t the banner it was that all three groups (NEE, RPB, and USector) worked on it together.

If you make your tifo at Kinko’s, you automatically lose.
