PGE Park Renovation: 107ist Stadium Tour

I had a good time at the 107ist stadium tour this afternoon. As some of you know I've been blogging about the renovation on my personal blog, and I was just at the Park two days ago so I didn't see anything new. But a lot of other people got their first glimpse of the new digs, and had the chance to grill the construction foreman to boot.

It was a nice afternoon at the new/old ball park, which as soon as tomorrow may have a different name, and which one month from tomorrow will host its first ever MLS game. It's almost here!

Thanks again to the Timbers, 107ist and Papa Murphy's for today's tour. Here's a panorama I took on my phone, compared with roughly the same shot from the first stadium tour, in November (click both for big versions):

Thanks for the pictures. It’s amazing how close the turf is to the stadium wall all the way around. They literally filled up the entire field surface with turf.

With the stands crowding closer than ever to the pitch, and the new roof’s noise-trapping qualities that Kip talks about in his first season preview, this is going to be an intimate and intimidating place to play and watch a match.

Can’t wait: a month from today! And first kick in 5 days!!!! omgomg.

Haven’t made it to a tour yet. Can anyone tell if they are replacing the wood benches in the 200 level with actual seats? Thanks.

They are not. With the budget kept so small and a tight timeline that improvement was moved to the “down the road” (read 3-5 years) list of things to do. Included in that is terraces in the TA section (pipe-dream but still possible), roof over the whole east side stand, solar panels on the roof and a myriad of other improvements. If we prove the venture profitable, the city and team will come back to the table to make further improvements to maximize profitability.
